This week we co-hosted a screening of the film CRIP CAMP: A DISABILITY REVOLUTION, a documentary about a revolution that blossomed in a ramshackle summer camp for teenagers with disabilities, transforming their lives and igniting a landmark movement in disability rights activism.
The film screening was followed by a discussion co-hosted by Dzaier Neil, chair of Disability Greens and member of Greens of Colour, and Claudine Letsae, of Greens of Colour and International Co-ordinator of GPEX.
The panel included some incredible activists, including Kate Belmonte from Medway Green Party, Mary-Ellen Archer who is on the National Steering Committee of DPAC (disabled people against cuts), and Ellen Clifford, author of The War on Disabled People: Capitalism, Welfare and the Making of a Human Catastrophe and member of the National Steering Committee of DPAC.
“Crip Camp is both a gripping look at the history of the disability rights movement and a timely call to action, urging us to explore our own duty to fight for the dignity of all people.”
