Nannette has been a Green Councillor since 2019 – she is also the co-chair of Young Greens of Colour – working to help make Norwich a global example of ambitious and equitable responses to local challenges.
Through her work Nannette highlights how what is happening to our climate and the environment affects every part of modern life – our homes and transport, our industries and opportunities for work, the air we breathe, the food we eat. A lesson she learned first hand:
“In 2005, my family was living in Pakistan when a 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit. That day, 86,000 people died, but me and my family were safe – not because of luck, but because we lived in a structurally secure house in a safe location. That day, we all experienced the same earthquake, but not in the same way. And that’s exactly why climate and social justice are intrinsically linked. We will all experience climate change, but we won’t all experience it in the same way.”
