Yesterday, our Green Peer Jenny Jones, responded to the disappearance of Sarah Everard and the Met suggesting women should stay inside, proposing a curfew for men.
During a debate on the Domestic Abuse Bill, she said: ‘I would argue that at the next opportunity for a bill that is appropriate, I might actually put in an amendment to create a curfew for men on the streets after 6pm, which I feel will make women much safer, and discrimination of all kinds would be lessened’.
Although she said the idea would be ‘impossible’ – she added she was making the point that it is men, not women, who should change their behaviour to stop violence.
Human remains have been found and a male police officer is being held on suspicion of murder after Ms Everard, 33, vanished while walking home from a friend’s flat in south London on Wednesday March 3.
The case has provoked a debate about why it is women who are told to change their behaviour when walking alone at night.
Speaking to the Mirror later, Baroness Jones accepted the idea would be “impossible” but said she was trying to make the point that men, not women, should be told to change their behaviour.
